Probably just like you, I was never taught about money. How to manage it, save it, invest it. I just knew how to spend it – and spend other people’s money (i.e. the banks!) I quickly racked up $20k of credit card debt and even though I was earning a good amount of money, I never seemed to be able to make it last, let alone invest it.
My parents are amazing humans – but they were also not shown better ways of growing wealth and through no fault of their own ended up with a negatively geared property and owed the bank hundreds of thousands of dollars in their later years of life. The injustice of this situation (which is more common than you might think!), along with the desire for me to change the pattern of poor financial education led me to learning what no one teaches you in school.
